This product uses natural solid wood. As each piece of wood is unique, please note that the actual product you receive may have slight variations in terms of wood grain or colour tone from the pictures on this page. Our raw materials undergo a rigorous picking process during production to minimise significant visual variances. However, you may still observe natural occurrences of knots, mineral streaks, hairline cracks and other small differences (please refer to the picture above). These do not constitute as defects and are not acceptable as a reason for refund.

Please also kindly note that the colour of some solid woods such as cherry wood matures over time. You might observe a darkening of colour shade after a period of usage (please refer to the picture above). This is a normal phenomenon and is not a defect.

Care information

- Avoid exposing the product to direct sunlight as prolonged exposure can remove moisture in wood and cause cracks.

- Occasionally wipe the product with a damp cloth to maintain appearance.

- Avoid placing very hot objects on the wooden surface directly, as it may damage the protective oil layer that was used to seal the wood surface.

- Avoid prolonged exposure/soaking the wooden surface with chemicals or solvents to prevent damaging the protective layer.

- After a long period of usage, you may choose to apply a new layer of wood wax oil on the surface to renew the product's appearance and prolong its lifespan.

Solid chest of drawers with beautiful wood grain

Amending my previous review after Shin from Nichi Nichi reached out to help us fix the issue with the chest of drawers we had purchased –

We purchased the Prague Solid Wood Drawer Chest (130x40x81cm) on 26 June 2025. About 2-3 months down the road, we started noticing that the top left and right drawers were starting to feel really stiff when opening and closing. It had come to a point where to open the drawers, we had to yank on them with all our might, and to close them, we had to give them a good shove. It was really frustrating.

We realised that the chest of drawers were made in a way such that there is no gap between the drawers and the drawer openings, to accommodate the natural expansion and contraction of the solid wood.

When we first reached out to Nichi Nichi to see if anything could be done about the opening/closing issue, it was really disappointing when we didn’t hear back for more than two weeks. Shin later reached out to apologise that they were travelling during the year-end and had not realised we had reached out.

Shin immediately arranged for Ryan, their handyman to come down to our place to assess the issue. Ryan helped us to sand down the parts of the drawers that were getting stuck. It was done very professionally and neatly. He also helped to apply wood wax oil to the areas that were sanded down and no longer varnished. He did a professional job, and checked if I was satisfied with the final result before taking his leave.

Many thanks to Shin and Ryan from Nichi Nichi. We would definitely consider purchasing from Nichi Nichi again should another piece catch our eye, knowing that if there are any issues, they are on-hand to offer assistance.

What I do wish though, is that the colour of the actual drawers matched the product images more. I had expected a paler, matte kind of oak which has a more modern look, but the actual drawers have a slightly glossy, reddish-tinted varnish. I changed the knobs to counter this, in order to suit our home décor better. The other thing I do wish is that the wood used on the inside of the drawers could match the quality of the wood on the outside a bit more. The wood used on the inside is of a lower, less solid quality, and the sliding path of the drawers is a bit stiff and clunky. But overall, it’s a solid chest of drawers where the natural grain of the wood is shown off beautifully.

Drawers do not open and close properly, 2-3 months down the road

Very unfortunate that I have to write this review, as I have tried reaching out to Nichi Nichi directly first but have not received any response to date –

I purchased the Prague Solid Wood Drawer Chest (130x40x81cm) on 26 June 2025. When I received the actual chest of drawers, I was immediately a little disappointed that they had a glossy, reddish-tinted varnish, different from the matte, paler kind of oak wood as expected from the listing images. I also noticed that the wood used on the inside of the drawers were of a poorer quality than the solid wood on the outside, making the drawers a bit stiff when sliding to open and close. I didn’t raise these issues with Nichi Nichi, as I decided I could get used to the chest of drawers, and changed the knobs to match my home décor better.

About 2-3 months down the road, we started noticing that the top left and right drawers were starting to feel really stiff when opening and closing. It has come to a point where to open the drawers, we have to yank on them with all our might, and to close them, we have to give them a good shove. When the drawers are closed flush after giving them a good shove, opening them the next time is near impossible.
When I look closely at the chest of drawers to try to figure out the issue, I realised that they were made in a way such that there is no gap between the drawers and the drawer openings to accommodate the natural expansion and contraction of the solid wood.

So now we have this chest of drawers that don’t open and close properly, which is really frustrating. I reached out to Shin from Nichi Nichi to enquire if there might be something that can be done about this issue. I first tried reaching out via email on 23rd December 2025, and followed up on 2nd January 2026. I also tried contacting Nichi Nichi via their online form on 6th January 2026, but have not received any response to date.

It's been really frustrating and I’m really disappointed with the lack of response from Nichi Nichi, given that the chest of drawers aren’t exactly cheap at $800. Shin had sent a postcard with some wood wax oil during the Christmas period, with a card requesting for a google review if we’re happy with the shopping experience with Nichi Nichi. I initially felt much appreciation for this personal touch, but now I think that perhaps they’re just hoping for good reviews if you haven’t had issues with your purchase. But my personal experience is that when you do encounter some issues/difficulties with your purchase, they ignore your attempts to reach out for a solution, and leave you high and dry.

As an aside, wood wax oil is only suitable for unvarnished wood, and is not suitable for varnished wood surfaces/furniture. This also makes me wonder if Nichi Nichi really knows their products well, given that they are an importer (some of their furniture can be found on other websites, sometimes for slightly cheaper), rather than crafted in-house.
